Hi Paul, I really enjoy your broadcasts with michael
kay your buddy and good friend on and off the field. I enjoy how you both enjoy each others company and mutual respect for each other while broadcasting yankee games. You have really come on as very good broadcaster and I enjoy listening to you. You and Michael have similiar styles of that soft but straight forward annoucing and by adding some side jokes and
what happened during the day or week and sharing that
with the air makes the game so much more enjoyable. we fans like to hear that stuff. So thanks again Paul 21
for your really good game annoucing and analysis. Dave

Went to my first game when i was 8 in '95 at the Stadium and you instantly became my favorite player! You made my childhood. It was so great all those years. You taught me at an early age to never give up, and work your hardest everyday inside and out. I also copied my game after you, even freakouts in the dugout at times of failure (which my mother wasn't so trilled about). But I think it has made me the person I am today. Thank you so much for such a great childhood in the late 90's in New York, and thank you for demonstating such great life lessons for so many young kids at the time like myself. Miss you 21!

My daughter still has pictures from the last yankee fan fest in 1997. You were so kind to her. Thank you for listening and staying late so she could meet you & get an autograph. I had no idea who you were. My daughter,Amanda was one of your biggest fans. She got me to be a Yankee fan because of you. We went to many games because of you. I can still remember sitting in the right field outfield watching you practicing your swing. Our family became fans because of you. I received a pair of your batting gloves--autographed by you for Christmas, from this site. We all miss watching you play. I purchased the valentine special for my husband

Hi Paul,
I often say, if I were starting my own hall of fame, Paul O'Neill would be the first guy I put in. People who saw Paul O'Neill play day in, day out, know, he's the guy you'd want on your team. I have to believe there's a place in monument park waiting for you.
A couple really funny memories: 1) the highlight of your soccer kick of the baseball when you were on the Reds, and 2) that locker room Seinfeld scene -- that was really some of the funniest stuff and best acting by an athlete on TV ever! Hysterical.
I have a newspaper picture somewhere in my house framed of that moment after the 2001 World Series with you and Don Zimmer in the dugout -- what a great moment.
We really enjoy you in the booth, too. God bless you with your charity work. Best wishes, and we hope to keep seeing you on TV.

Paul,
As a fellow Bearcat alum, it was awesome to see someone go on to a higher level and have success. I can remember watching you play hoops at lunchtime out back with the other guys and standing out. If I remember correctly, you hit the game winner on a breakaway against Linden to give us the hoops city title your senior year. It surprised me to find out you were better at baseball than hoops. You have made a lifelong Red's fan proud when your 1990 team brought home a World Series title, and you have made a fellow alum proud to have walked the same halls as you as a teenager.

She almost fainted when you hugged her. She made me become a Yankee fan because of her devotion to you. Today, she is planning her wedding. She & her fiance are fans. But, Amanda still talks about you. The years you played were the most exciting to be a Yankee Fan.. Thank you.

Hi Paul,
Just a quick note to say thank you! I just received the
three ball set signed by you, Jeter & Williams. As a lifetime Yankee fan, it will proudly sit in my office
and be a great conversation piece. I can't think of three
recent (and current) Yankees that I admire, or have more respect for!
It was exactly what Robert said it would be and arrived right on time. The whole transaction was a pleasure and
speaking with Robert was an added bonus.
I wish you and your family all the best, if you ever come to Raleigh, I'd be pleased to take you my course for a round of golf!
Thanks again.
Regards,
Rob

Paul I always thought of you as the Heart $ Soul of those winning Yankee Teams in the 90's. Now if you would can you please use your Wisdom & Expertise to teach Major league Ballplayers who are getting up in age, 'The correct way to retire'. I always admired the way you went out Paul. You had maybe 1 or 2 years left, but you left on a high note and more importantly you did not put your team and it's fans in the bad situation of having to play you out of respect even though some skills may have dimished. We Yankee fans will never forget you and the current Yankee players from the teams of the 90's, you will always be like Royalty to us. But we want to win also paul just like everyone.

So many years ago, I won an autographed poster for being the 1,000th poster on this board with 'Paul, you are now and always will be my favorite player. You are having a great season and I hope you never retire! Love ya!!!.' Well, you went and retired but you are STILL my all-time favorite player. That autographed poster is still in the same box it was mailed in as it's my most prized possession and I never want it to get damaged. I still miss you playing. I hear your voice broadcasting a Yankees game and wonder if you ever miss playing as much as you are missed playing! I hope you and your family are doing great!!!

I have been a Yankee fan for as long as I can remember. I have liked a lot of players over the 30 or so years of following the Yankees and I have to say that hands down you are by far my favorite. As a ball player myself I can relate to the anger and frustration of making an out. I never wanted to get out and got so mad when I did. You appitamize the word winner, you never wanted to lose or make an out and that is what I liked the most about your game. There has not been a player with the intensity and drive to be the best like yourself and that is why you got so much respect from your teammates and 'The Boss'. I truly feel the team didn't win all those years because your winning spirit and intensity was not in the clubhouse. You will always be my favorite Yankee!

Hi to one of my favorite Yankees! While you no longer grace the field at Yankee Stadium, I definitely enjoy your on-air presence, especially when you're teamed with Michael Kaye and Ken Singleton. Your recent discussion of Cincinnati Airport being in Kentucky had me laughing - I've flown there on business many times. You mentioned Graeter's Ice Cream (a favorite for me, too!) but you left out the other bastion of local Cincinnati culture - Skyline Chili! My Cincinnati hosts were also pleased to point out another landmark in the area - Don Zimmer's high school!

Dear Mr. O'Neill, Growing up my Mom was a devout Yankees fan and my sisters and I would watch the games with Mom. Years later Mom is 86, and STILL a Yankees fan as she enjoys each game. Her love of the game introduced me to love it as well. You are my personal favorite and I truly miss seeing you in the line-up. You are always a gentleman, truthful and honest, and are a role model for todays ball players to follow. I enjoyed the episode of 'Center Stage' when you were interviewed as tears came to my eyes when you spoke of your love for your family and the game. Always you will be my favorite Yankee and I thrill when you call games with Michael Kay. It's wonderful to see you in the 'Booth' as you are a handsome man! My family and I see games here in NC as we are transplanted Yankees from 'the North' (NJ) who love our NY Yankee team! Many transplanted Northerners live here and I've seen many 'NY Yankee' stickers on cars. Thank you, Mr. O'Neill for the years you contributed to the Yankees adding your skills, personality and vitality to a game I sincerely love! You are the best and I miss seeing you in right-field! Take care and May God bless you and keep you healthy!

Paul, I listened to your interview on XM First Pitch with Rob Dibble and Jim Memelo this morning. I was inspired to find 'Me and My Dad' on line as I too had a special relationship with my Dad. I grew up in Connecticut a life long Yankee fan dating back to my first game at Yankee Stadium with my Dad in 1950 at 5 years old. I admired the you played the game. My dad always told me that does not matter what you do for a living, it's how you do it. He said 'If you want to dig ditches, that's okay, just dig good ones'. I established a New York Deli in Fort Myers which I put my entire heart and soul into for 15 years. Due to a road change, it is now failing, but I am determined to move forward. I look forward to getting your book and reading it and plan to share it with my older brother.
Sincerely,
Alan

Hello Paul,
Our family is looking forward to the new season with the 2009 Champs...And, we also look foward to your sagacious wit and personal knowledge of the game, as you sit alongside Michael in the broadcast booth.
We still miss you after all these years, the Yankees will always be our team, but something changed the day you retired - no one has been able to capture your style, defensive or otherwise, we will treasure those days forever.
However, we are glad you are still a HUGE part of the Yankees organization, and such an integral part of the broadcast booth...The only thing is - you are not on ENOUGH - please try to broadcast more games this season, you are wonderful, and delightful with your playful rapport that you share with Michael.
Hope you had a great winter with your family and friends, and we await the Yankees 2010 season with bated breath...Go Yankees here's to #28!!!

I will never forget the first time my family met Paul. It was the last Yankee Fan Fest in February 1997. It was really wonderful. Our daughter,Amanda was 16 at this time and really loved Paul. She could not understand what the fuss was about Derek. Paul was her Yankee. During that world series she made us stay exactly where we were whenever Paul got a hit--He was so kind to her when she met him. He gave her a hug and we thought that she was going to faint. We still talk about it. This was such a great Yankee memory for our family.

Another Yankee season has started. As I am about to watch a pre-season game today against Philly, I miss the fact that you will not be out there in RF. Just wanted you to know that you are still very much missed. Hope all is well.....

Mr. O'Neill:
I just finished reading your book 'Me and My Dad' and it was wonderful! It made me laugh and cry and most particularly it made me think of my dad. I loved him dearly and miss him terribly and always think of the life lessons he taught me. He and I also spent many summer days and nights out in the right field stands cheering on you and the Yankees. Memories I will always have of him, thank you.
Peace,
Larry

I LOVED your determination. You were too funny when you knocked over all those water coolers too.
You have been my all-time favorite player and I miss you .
I'll never forget the day your Dad died and you played your heart out and was able to cry on the field after the win. What a guy!

My first Yankee game, you were in right field and I was sitting in the right field seats about 60 feet away from you. I was a little fella, but amazed by your intensity whenever a ball came your way, or you were at bat. You worked so hard at everything you did, and will always be remembered for it!

Hi Paul,
Missed you at this year's Old Timer's Day festivities! Tino and Scott no shows as well........
I was, and I still am, a big Thurman Munson fan (Nettles ran a close second), always appreciated his dedication. It wasn't until you came to the Yankee organization in the 90s that I, once again, saw that same 'raw' dedication. You will always remain an inspiration because of it! Hope to see you in another capacity one day.... until then, I'll settle for your input in the booth.
All the best, always

Hi Paul,
I am in the middle of your book about you and your dad. I am living the Yankees World Series through your book. It seems like just yesterday when you guys won them. I was thirty and going through cancer during the first Yankee World Series. It was awesome that you guys just kept winning. It helped me to watch the game and not think about my cancer. I had cervical cancer and then it went in the liver. The doctors said I didn't have much more timeand I had two boys so it was quite hard to believe that I was that sick. After everyone went to bed, the World Series games were still playing and went late into the evening. I kept my head in the game and not on myself. Those games helped me to deal with the cancer. The more you guys won the playoffs then the World Series, the more I got to watch and enjoy and forget my woes. I am now 42 and even though you wont be playing this year in the 'New Stadium', I won't forget you and how well you helped the Yankees the year I was so sick. Thank you for helping them and being such a cool player, dad, son, husband, and more importantly a cool guy. Take care and enjoy your retirement and your kids. Life goes too quickly.

Hello Paul,
Just thought I would go on line and look up some of the Yankee players that I had such a great time watching not so very long ago. My father was a semi-pro baseball player and all of my brothers, 4 of them, all played ball. Needless to say I spent a lot of time as the scorekeeper for endless baseball games in the summer. I very much enjoyed watching you give it all you had every time you were on the field. Hard to believe that you are considered an old timer, you will always be the greatest too me and I too hope we see more of you.

Hey Paul,
First let me just say, thank you for all the great times. I'll never ever forget when you kicked the ball from right field to first base. I got to see that live and as a little kid that was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. I was also lucky enough to be there for your final game in Yankee Stadium and I still feel the goosebumps and electricity in the air from when everyone was chanting your name. No matter what you did that night, everyone loved you. You inspired me to move to the outfield and now in my first year of college I'm still out there patrolling the tracks. Thank You for being a great person and a great New York Yankee.

Hello Paul,
We know you have been in Italy for some time with your family...Lord knows Michael and the others keep kidding about it on the air! We hope you have enjoyed your trip, and look forward to hearing you in the booth again...It has not been the same, even after ALL THESE YEARS without you on the field...So, the only solace is knowing you remain part of the Yankee family offering your professional input as part of the 'broadcast team.' The only problem we have is you are HARDLY THERE! Come on Paulie, try to set up more time in the booth, your long time fans miss hearing from you...And you and Michael have a great rapport, you are both so funny how you 'rib each other' It makes the game that much better, even if the Yankees are losing!! Hope to see you at Old Timer's Day Again this year....That is a treat worth waiting for....See you soon, and hope all is well with you and your lovely family..You are The BEST! Camille and Ron~

Paul, Yankee haters are out in full force after todays beyond unacceptable tantrum on the field by Jose Reyes in the Yankee-Met loss. I turned on the radio at the moment that an obviously ignorant Met fan claimed that your helmet tossing or water cooler bashing was worse than the disgusting tantrum Reyes acted out on the field today(6/29/08). I lost my mind and had to call WFAN immediately. The radio host stated even before I had my say that Yankee fans were flooding the switchboard. Yankee fans love their Paul O'Neill. In a nutshell I said ' Let's get this straight right now. Paul O'Neill & Jose Reyes are not even in the same conversation! Did Paul O'Neill ever show up his manager on the field? NO! Did Paul O'Neill ever show up any of his teammates on the field? NO! Paul O'Neill was harder on himself than anyone else ever could have been & Yanke fans appreciated his pasion. O'Neill's helmet/water cooler destruction was about his displeasure with his own at bat, not about his teammates. When Reyes has 57,000 fans chanting his name in a WS game we are losing at the time maybe he can talk. Do not ever bring Paul O'Neill down to the level of gutteral behavior that Reyes displays consistently. Forever you are always a 'true' Yankee in our hearts !! We've got your back Paul!

Hey Big O'Neill! I just stumbled upon this web page after having a conversation with my 8-year old son who is really starting to love the game of baseball. He asked me who was my favorite Yankee. Now I have to be honest, I am not a huge Yankee fan, but having lived in Connecticut for awhile in high school and college I spent many games sitting in right field at Yankee Stadium. My response to my son was Paul O'Neill. I loved how you played the game, hard and with tenacity. Very reminiscent of my childhood hero George Brett. I just wanted to say I wish there were more ball players like you and that someday my son plays the game he's starting to love with the same tenacity and drive that you did for so many years!

Paul, I miss sitting in right field yelling Uncle Paulie for 9 innings. You are my favorite Yankee and I sorely miss that winning attitude you brought to the team each and every day. There will never be a team like that again. Paul, Bernie, Tino, Scott, Derek, Jorge, and Andy THANK YOU for all those great seasons!!!

Grew up a die hard Yankee fan, and you are among the best. Used to be Lou Piniella was my favorite and then you came along. Can't believe it's been so many years since you were an active player. Thank God you are broadcasting. Wish you were there more often. Your humor just adds to the games. By the way, if they build a kitchen in the broadcast booth for you, I'll come and cook.

The fans have spoken , attention Steinbrenner's , put #21 on the wall where it belongs , not on the back of relief pitcher that will be gone in a year , that was disgracefull IMO. Paul you are great in the booth!

Paul, I thought you wore #21 to honor Clemente? Is that true, I thought that was how it was said in your book 'Me and My Dad', which by the way I loved!
If you wore it to honor Roberto I don't see the big deal for another Yankee Player to wear it to honor him as well...
You are the man,

Dear paul,
Every time you took the field you carried our hearts with you . we lived and died with you.We all had goose bumps on our arms and tears in our eyes that last night in 2001.looking back , I guess it was cause I'll never see a player like you again. You were moneumental to us , like Gehrig or Mantle. #21 will always be paulie's number and I'll always tell people when they come to the game with me...that worn out spot in right...well...That's paulie's patch...

The Universe has been put back into order, there can and always will be one number 21 for the Yankees. I would encourage every true Paul O'Neill fan to now call upon the Yankees to do the right thing and retire 21. The wall of Numbers in Left field is just about full, how fitting if Paul's was the first to adorn Right Field?

The summer of 1990 was probably one of the best summers of my life, with my grandfather having Reds season tickets. Riverfront was a lot of fun that summer, and it was really a lot of fun on October 16th, 1990 for Game 1 of the World Series. Thank you for giving me a reason to cheer that year.

I, too, was very dissapointed - in fact outraged - to see No. 21 on a different Yankee player. It is an outrage! I think your No. 21 should be retired. You are the reason I am a baseball fan. I still miss you because to me you were the most exciting player I have ever seen. I hope the Steinbrenner's do the right thing and retire your number! I do enjoy seeing you on Yes.

Hey Paul! I just wanted to say as one of your biggest fans I cried the other night to see Hawkins wearing #21! I was mad and sad all in one! I can't believe they did not retire #21 for you! I thought it was poetic justice though that the Stadium chanted Paul O'Neill! You are the one and only #21!!

Paul: As a student of the game, especially hitting, don't you think Giambi and Matsui would be quicker on the fast ball if they stopped ' over-striding' with their right foot.
Pujols and David Ortiz--don't stride at all-a la DiMaggio--and they seem to hit the good fastballs much better than most of the Yankees. I think that's the reason for Ortiz's resurgence as a 'pull-hitter'.
I still remember your 9th inning double in the Cleveland playoff series to keep us alive. Like a true warrior.
Please don't stop your analysis with the Yankee organization--you're a breath of fresh air.

Paul I just found this site while searching for your book 'me and my dad' and consider it an honor to thank you personally for the great memories you have given to me and all yankee fans. I am 44 yrs. old and to me you are the greatest yankee to put on the uniform since Mickey Mantle. I never thought much of wearing a players jersey due to the fact that players follow the money in todays sports climate .I own 2 ... yours and Mark Messiers. You are a true champion and from all that I know a true role model. I've coached baseball and football for 14 years ages 6 thru 16 as well as high school and any time I need to get a message across to one of my teams I will show them a video of you. Your intensity and dedication to your craft and your teams are unparalled. Thank you for being the 'warrior' that you are and for being my role model. God bless you and yours! Joe

My kids weren't old enough to appreciate you playing for the Yanks, but now they are playing in little league, and I always remind them how you had such a desire to win. IT WOULD REALLY BE A SHOT IN THE ARM SEEING YOU PLAYING RIGHT FIELD AGAIN AND TO SEE YOU AT THE PLATE READY TO BAT. EVEN THOUGH THE YANKEES HAVE BOBBY ABREU PLAYING RIGHT FIELD NOW, HE IS VERY GOOD BUT STILL WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU PLAYING THERE. I KNOW THERE WILL NEVER BE A COME BACK FOR YOU AS A PLAYER, YOU HATE THE TRAVELING AND BEING AWAY FROM THE FAMILY. YOU EVER THINK ABOUT COMING BACK AS A COACH LIKE MATTINGLY DID?? THEN AGAIN YOU WOULD HAVE TO TRAVEL WITH THE TEAM. BUT REALLY WISH YOU WERE STILL ACTIVE. TAKE CARE, JEFF.

Hi Mr.O`Neill I always wanted to thank you for being a Yankee. They definately miss your winning attitude and your leadership, and I miss your clutch hits and great fielding when we needed it.You were a winning player five world series rings says it all.And three sweeps as well out of the five championships.I`am a Yankee fan since I`am five or six years old, I`am 52 now, Ihave three favorite Yankee of all-time,Mickey Mantle, Thurman Munson and you Mr.O`Neill.I`am proud when I wear you Yankee shirt with your name and number on the back.I mstill get that sense of pride that I `am sure you did wearing that shirt.I have several of your cards as a Yankee about 25 or so,but my favorite Paul O`Neill card is a piece of your bat card.I cherish it.That you for bring us back from the dead of the late 70`s all the 80`s and into the 90`s for when the Yankees got you in the famous trade for Roberto Kelly it was just a matter of time when we would be on top again.Yours Truly Paul...

You don't get enough credit for being one of the main reasons the Yankee Franchise turned back to its winning ways after years of decline. I really wish some of the current Yankees would follow your examples of being patient at the plate, swinging at smart pitch counts, and being an all-around solid player. Guys like you made the Yankees THE YANKEES again with a quiet professionalism.

Any chance of you becoming a base coach and putting some life into these Yankees. Even if they lose they should try. I look at Boston right now and if they are down 19-0 in the 9th inning I would still worry they could mount a comback. Sort of the way you played, now if the Yankees are down 5-4 I have no or very little confidence they will come back in he 9th. This is all mental--I was a Marine at one time and have seen people with less physical skills over come people with more physical skills if they have the right attitude. The Yankees from 96-2001 spoiled the fans-and there will never be a team like that again--but at least talk to them and give them some gatorade to knock over--lol
