hi paul, my name is rebecca. i cant tell you how much it broke my heart when you retired. i am 24 years old and played softball throughout college, because of your courage, talent, and will to play the game, i always looked up to you as my role model. in fact, for my 24 birthday my fiance bought me an autographed picture of you because he and everyone i know knows how much of an inspiration you are to me. you were actually incorporated into a toast at my wedding from my sister. thankyou for everything you are and stand for.
sincerely your biggest fan,
rebecca

Hey Paul,
First off i just want to thank you for all you
did for the Yankees Organization..
Also I want to thank you for how much heart you put into playing baseball because I first saw you in person when I was like 9 or 10 and I had already liked you.. but when i saw how hard you ran the bases everytime on.. it made you one of my all-time favorite players.. it also inspired me to do the same now that I'm older playing baseball myself... every time i get on i think of how hard you played and what a differnce that made in games i try to do the same..
im not all that fast, but im one of the best base runners because i hussle more than most people and i credit alot of that to you......
One last thing.. can you consider unretiring and playing center? we could really use you...you were smart though.. you got out while you were on top..
Thanks again..
-Josh

Hi Paul, We love listening to you when you are announcing on YES. Your sense of humor is a pleasure and I love how you are Sooooo calm about the game (Now that it's not you up at the plate) You are missed very much and it's great to still have you as part of the Yankee's games every once in a while. It's always more fun to watch the game when you are in the booth. God bless you always...

Paul, I am 17 years old and have had season tickets ever since 1995. At first you were my favorite player becasue we have the same last name(and spelled the same) but i quickly realized how good of a player you were. The three greatest memories I have of you are winning the 96 world series against atlanta and you jumping over the pile on the mound, that classic at bat in the 9th against benitez in game 1 of the 00 world series against the mets, and of course game 5 of the 01 world series when everyone thought you were walking off the field for the final time at the stadium( bueng-hung kim my hero-second to you of course) When is steinbrenner going to realize that there needs to be a Paul O'Neill day? And are you going to be attending Old Timers Day this year july 9 vs Indians??

Dear Paulie,
To an all-time great Yankee -- thanks for so many priceless memories. You are sorely missed. The 2005 Yanks desperately need to take a page out of your book as to how to play the game the way it's suppoased to be played.

Paulie - I've been a Yankee fan for a long time and I will be a Yankee fan for a long time to come. I've seen many players come and go - that's just part of the game. But since you've left as an active player it just hasn't been the same. I still have my Yankee series tickets at the Skydome in Toronto but now when I look out from the right field line it's not you I'm looking at. I may never get used to that. I miss you. Michelle

Dear Paul, thank you for the great memories and the lessons you have taught so many. I had a chance to see you at the 2005 Memorial Tournament in Dublin,OH this year and it was the thrill of a lifetime. You were being mugged by fans so I wasn't able to get close to you, but just being near you was a true pleasure. I am only 22, but my dad was with me and he is 46 and always has been a big fan. He would always tell me stories about you. Once again, thank you so much for touching my life, baseball, and humanity. God bless #21.

Paul, you would have fit PERFECTLY on the Yankees teams from 77 and '78, your intensity, competitiveness and pure professionalism continue to be a point that people look back on when the Yankees are in a rut. Your book was amazing, and there are similarites between our fathers. I have a baseball with your autograph, I have many, many signed baseballs, but yours is at the top of them all. Water coolers everywhere are sleeping a bit better at night, unless pineilla's in town. The fervent Yankee fans all over the world continue to put you in the batters box at crunch time. The best to you and your family, God Bless and take care.

Hi Paul,
You are my all time favorite Yankee! I know there have been many great Yankees throughout the years, but I got the biggest kick out of watching you play! You put your heart and soul into the game. I am ashamed to say but I loved when you would get mad at the ump for calling you out on that low outside strike (by the way, I never thought they were strikes either!). One game you got called out and you freaked on the ump and of course he threw you out of the game. As you were walking back to the dugout the camera was behind you and you could see all of your teammates slowly moving to the other side of the bench. They knew something was going to get it, like a water cooler or a gatorade bucket. But it was that fire you had that made watching you a hoot. I'm glad you are a part of the YES network. Although I live in PA and can't get it I watch you on MLB TV. Good luck in all you do. You truly made the game of baseball fun!

I'm not the type of person to awe over celebrity, but I must let it be known that I was a casual sports observer until I saw Paul O'neil play for the NY Yankees during the 1995 season.
He made me a baseball fan. A New Yankees baseball fan.
The determination to present the best personal performance in contribution to a committed team effort. Paul brought to each game will always be inspiring for me.
The 1998 NY Yankees are arguably the greatest baseball team to date and Paul O'neil was there...

Another season has begun, and as always I look forward to The Yankees playing and perhaps winning another World Series. However, irrespective of what transpires on the field, I regale in the fact that Paul remains an integral part of YES with his analysis and views as an announcer. It is comforting to know that although Paul is not 'actually playing' he really is still very much a Yankee and always shall be. And, by the way, I love that he 'eats non-stop' while on the air and Michael Kay kids him about it, while Paul takes the ribbing like the good sport he is. We love you Paul, and you will always be our favorite all time Yankee, and now our favorite announcer. Stay with us, keep giving us your views intermingled with your 'little barbs' at Michael, we are loving every minute of it. Thanks for caring to stay on and allow your fans the opportunity to see you and hear you. Take care and all our best to you and your family always~

Paulie...It's still not the same going to the best palce on earth (Yankee Stadium) and not seeing you in Right Field. I know it has been 4 years now since you walked away, but there's no replacing you. people always talk about Tino coming in to replace Donnie, and then Giambi coming in to replace Tino, but I it was just as big a replacement when Sheff came in to the Bronx to replace you. I can't thank you enough for all the memories and great things you were able to accomplish during your time in New York. You are missed dearly everyday. I enjoy when you are on YES and thank god you're still around, because the Yankees are just not the same with out you. One day your number will be out there behind the left/center field wall, and it definately deserves that spot. Sheff is a very good player, but will NEVER be able to replace you. Thanks for everything and god bless you and your family. Thanks!

We are into another year of baseball here in Columbus and to kick it off right, for me anyway, I displayed my Paul O'Neill bobblehead, along with a picture I had taken with you over 7 years ago, on my desk. To me that is a sure sign that the boys of summer are back in action. Thank you for giving me such great memories.

Hi Paul, Just wanted to say that I am a huge fan of yours and know that you love rock music. I wanted to tell you that there is a place called Contenintal, a dive in NYC where a bunch of us regulars sing punk rock heavy metal karaoke with a live band (who, by the way, are awesome). Karaoke is every Monday night, and on May 9th, we are having a charity event to benefit the MC, who has recently been hospitalized. Hope you can join us- it starts around 10pm till 1am. For more info on the location, go to www.punkmetalkaraoke.com. See you there! Amy

We all love you Paul. Please stay involved with the organization, there can never be enough of guys like you. You're a classy guy off the field and such a joy to watch on it - to see a player visibly care as much as the die hard fans do was so good to watch. If the hall looked at intangibles as much as they should you'd be a sure thing, but you will always be a legend in the Bronx.

you are a true inspiration to all of us. When ever times get rough and we get a lot work piling up and everyone counts us out, we say, What Would Paul O'Neill Do? And then we beat up the water cooler and get right back in the game. To win the game you must be in the game. Thanks for the dedication Paul.

Hi Paul,
You are truly an amazing person and it's so hard to look out into right field and not see you there. However, I'm a partial season ticket holder for the Yankees and at least can get a glimpse of you at the stadium when you're broadcasting on the YES network. I've also enjoyed when the stadium has had a tribute to you by showing highlights of your career with 'The Warrior' playing in the background. I have to tell you....it makes me cry every time.
I wanted to know if the rumors were true and if your number will be retired this year? You definitely deserve this honor and can't wait for the day to come.

Paul, i hope you read this... i am your #1 fan... its a shame that players have to retire at some point, i wish i could continue watching you play forever. you were the best all around player, and my favorite of all time. you brought the intangibles to the game, and thats the most important part of building a championship team. i think that you are the definitive baseball player- you were able to hit home runs, singles, doubles and triples, score runs, drive them in, steal bases and play defense. i model my play after you, my batting stance, my habits, everything. i have a picture of you on my wall of your last game at yankee stadium, it is positioned between my american flag, and yankee flag. thanks for th years of memories, etertainment, and championships. it is a pleasure listening to you on the YES Nertwork, keep up the good work, and good luck.

PAUL, A FEW MONTHS AGO MY FATHER AND MOTHER WERE OUT FOR THEIR ANNIVERSARY EATING AT A RESTAURANT IN WHITE PLAINS WITH A BUNCH OF THEIR FRIENDS. THEY WERE CELEBRATING THEIR 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. YOU WERE AT A NEARBY TABLE ALSO ENJOYING A FINE MEAL. WHEN YOU GOT UP MY DAD ASKED IF YOU WOULD TAKE A PICTURE WITH HIS BEST FRIEND LENNY WHO HAD A STROKE A FEW MONTHS BEFORE AND WAS PARALIZED. WITH THE BIGGEST SMILE YOU PUT YOUR ARM AROUND LENNY AND TOOK A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE AND OFFERED HIM SOME ENCOURAGING WORDS. LENNY EVEN MANAGED A SMILE. LENNY PASSED AWAY TODAY AND MY DAD MANAGED TO SMILE AS HE LOOKED AT THE PICTURE HE HAS OF THE TWO OF YOU. IT HANGS PROMENENTLY IN OUR OFFICE. PAUL, I'LL END THIS WITH A SIMPLE THANK YOU. MARC

Hi Paulie, I also had the opportunity of meeting you at a book signing. I have to say that I really didn't know what to expect. You could not have been nicer to us. We walked out of the bookstore grinning from ear to ear. I enjoyed reading your book. Your father sounds like a wonderful person. I can understand your needing to retire to spend time with your children after being raised by such a wonderful man. I do miss you terribly. You are my all-time favorite Yankee player. In my opinion, there hasn't been another right fielder good enough to replace you. Hope to see more of you on YES this year. I enjoy your input on the broadcasts.

I needed to let you know that you are my most favorite Yankee. I have been a Yankee fan for as long as I can remember and you truly capture what it means to be a Yankee. I have had some great Yankee memories over the past 25 years but my BEST memory was MEETING YOU at a book signing.. I have this awesome picture of you and me sitting at my desk and every day some one will pass it saying it that...NO it can't be!!!

Hi Paul! Just wanted to wish you and everyone in your family a very Happy & Healthy Saint Patrick's Day! I hope you are enjoying retirement and the extra time to spend with your family. I am looking forward to seeing your commentaries again this season on YES and maybe your will make an appearance at Old Timer's day this year (Of course in YOUR case it is YOUR case it is YOUNG Timer's Day!). Thanks again for all the wonderful memories - the three home runs in one game in 1995, the double in the final inning in the Division Series in 1997, the great catch in the World Series in 1998, and of course all those great at-bats - like you say - you always hated to give away ANY at-bats. I think I can speak for ALL Yankee fans in stating we knew you always gave your all in every at bat, on the basepaths and in right field. Again, Happy Saint Patty's Day!!!

Paul,
I've been a huge Yankee fan since the mid 70's. Went to plenty of games during that time and saw some amazing things. I have to say the most amazing thing in sports was the night that the fans chanted your name. 'pauuuuul O'Neeeeeil, Pauuuuul O' Neeeeeeeeil'
I can still hear that in my head to this day and i do believe that chant was something more than fans just appreciating your career and appreciating what you did in this game and what you did for New York. The passion behind those chants was the fans telling the world that even more important than wins and losses is what a person has inside of him. You can't chant like that to someone who's a bad person who just happens to be a great player...those chants weren't about playing baseball, those chants were about the person that you are, how you carried yourself on and off the field and how passionate you were about what you did.
Passion like that can't be taught, it has to come from within. Heart like that can't be taught, it has to come from within. Class like that can't be taught either. That chant was more than just being a great player and a great Yankee, it was mostly about being yourself, a great person.
Thank you paul for being you.....an unforgettable person.

Hey Paul, You are my #1 player. I just wanted to tank you for all the great things you have done for me and other fans all over the world. I wanted to thank you because once you left i was saving $ for a picture then you left and I thought now I would never get it but on my brithday there it was a picture of you at your last home game it was my best brithday ever! When you left baseball I was sad but happy because I thought now Paul can put time into other things. Baseball will never be the same without Paul O'Neill in right in the Bronx. Also I just wanted to Know how you started to play the drums because I started when I found out that you play the drums. Thank you again for being a great hero for me to look up to when I grow up and as I grow up.

As a 16 year old kid, the Yankees winning was all I ever knew. Now that the Yankees have had some hard seasons without you and guys like Tino, Pettite, and Cone, I have come to realize the hard work and talent you brought to the team. But most importantly your integrity and leadership have proven to be irreplacable.

Paul you are missed so dearly...You will always represent the Yankee organization as a class act. First as a player and now as a YES announcer...We didn't see that much of you this season, and your presence was missed...It is always a pleasure to hear your professional commentary and insight...I hope your family is doing well and pray you have a wonderful and healthy holiday season. I look forward to next season... Go Yankees 2005!

I will pray for the team to retire #21. No one should ever wear your number. The team has not been the same since you left. Thanks for the great memories Paul.

Hi Paul,
The best trade the Yankees ever made was Roberto Kelly for Paul O'Neill. I have seen almost every game the Yankees have played for the past 27 years. Like many other die-hard fans I suffered through the late 80s and early 90s. When you arrived in 1993 you brought with you a winning attitude and passion for excellence that spread throughout the team. I remember thinking that very year that the only reason for the dramatic change in the Yanks performance must have had a lot to do with what was going on in the clubhouse and the biggest difference was you. I thought we missed our chance in 1995 and to this day my most vivid memory is the image of you walking off the field in Seattle, devastated by that loss. I just wanted to take the time to thank you for every year, every game, every at-bat, and especially every other teammate you motivated from 1993 until your retirement. Nothing that transpired between 1996 and 2001 would have been possible if not for your presence on the Yankees. I do have one question. It has to do with that night in November of 2001, when it seemed as though every fan in Yankee Stadium was chanting your name. I want to know if that moment touched you. I know you mean so much to me as well as thousands of other fans but I do not know if you, at least on that night, felt about us the way we feel about you. Did you appreciate it or were you just embarassed? I didnt see you even tip your cap although you may have done so when the cameras were not on you. I have wondered this for years. Please respond if you get the chance.

Hey Paulie, I guess this is as close to you as i will ever get. I would like to let you know that you are the First Yank i think of when i am asked who my favorite is. I think the Bombers lost something more than a great player when you hang them up. They lost a link to the past; The Babe, Joe, Lou, Yogi, Thurman, Mick, and Paulie. Well i think i should bring this message to a close with a simple thank you and hope to see you in a dougout in the future. Pinstripes in the Desert.

just wanted to say that you are the man, and you were always my favorite yankee. i always enjoyed your passion, whether out of excitement, or frustration because you knew you could have done better (i can relate to smashing that gatorade cooler with irritation, i used to love that), but either way you always showed spirit. the fact your were one of the best if not the best player on the team at the time didn't hurt either.

Not to be posted, but nowhere on the website does it show what you have been up to since retiring. I heard that you were commentating for YES, but i am 20 minutes north of the New York/Canadian border, so I am unable to receive Yes. We thank you for all the great moments of baseball you gave to Yankee Fans and NYC. As yankee fans since the 50's, we can honestly say the 1995-2001 Yankee teams were as talented, entertaining and exciting to watch as any we had seen play in our liftimes. We also know you were a ture leader on those teams by the example you set as a player and a family man. We were your neighbors thorughout your tenure as a NY Yankee (#68, three dors up from you) . Your were always friendly and a great neighbor. Ironically and coincidentally we moved at the same time you did. Good luck to you and your family and THANKS AGAIN!

It took awhile for me to forgive her when she first said 'Paul who?'....but we worked it out. You were a true Yankee professional who showed up to play every single day and never gave up an at bat. READING YOUR BOOK ME AND MY DAD
AND ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH. I AM
STILL WAITING FOR THE YANKEES TO
ANNOUNCE WHEN PAUL O'NEILL DAY WILL
BE SO I CAN GET MY TICKETS.
I HAVE A STORY I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE.
MY BOYFRIEND AND I WERE WALKING
ALONG THE BOARDWALK IN SEASIDE
PARK, NJ WHEN WE CAME ACROSS
A STAND WITH T SHIRTS. THEY HAD YOUR
NAVY BLUE NY TSHIRT, BUT THERE WAS A
BIG PROBLEM. YOUR NAME WAS SPELLED
O'NEAL. I POINTED OUT TO THE GUY
RUNNING THE STAND THAT THE T SHIRT
WAS SPELLED WRONG. HE HAD NO IDEA
OF THE ERROR AND ASKED ME HOW I KNEW IT WAS WRONG. I TOLD HIM I AM A
YANKEE FAN AND MY FAVORITE PLAYER IS
#21 THE WARRIOR. I TURNED AROUND
AND SHOWED HIM MY TSHIRT I WAS WEARING THAT WAS SPELLED O'NEILL.
WHEN WE WENT BACK THE NEXT NIGHT, HE TOLD US THAT 2 OTHER PEOPLE POINTED OUT THE MISTAKE AND HE TOOK
THEM OUT OF THE DISPLAY.
A FEW LOYAL O'NEILL FANS TOOK CARE OF IT.

Hi Paul,
I met and talked with you for a brief moment near the elevator in the William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA. in 1990. I was there for a business meeting, and you were sitting on the floor by the elevator
door autographing baseballs. I was waiting for the elevator door to open and you said hello, introduced yourself and offered me a baseball. I said no thank you, because I had no place to keep it as I hurried off to my meeting downstairs. I told my district there was a really nice guy up on my floor giving baseballs away. When I told them your name, they asked me if I was insane not to take it. I didn't follow baseball
at that time and had no idea who you were. What I do remember now is how genuine and kind you were. I remembered that for years later when I heard your name or saw you on TV. I just started dating someone who could be your twin
brother he looks so much like you, and this experience has reminded me of how nice you were all those years ago. I hope you are enjoying life away from baseball. I bet you are a great role model for your children. God Bless...

Mr. O'Neil If you ever read this I just like to tell you my grandma was you best fan and hated you in the same game. I have a lot of good memories of her yelling and scream at the T.V. for you to stop fight with the umpire, she used to threw her flippers at the screen and scream bloody murder. She then saw you hit a home run and cheerred. We would tease her and say she had a crush on you she replied' when hell freezes over'. I'm sorry if any of this offended you but she loved you. When you played and the day she passed away she order me a Paul O'Neil Staute. I keep as a treasury of rembering her and I want to thank you for all the good times you gave us and that you were a great ball player. It was great talking to you before the Frampton/ Styx concert in Columbus (6/12/04). I knew Peter and the late, great Bob Mayo were a big Yankees fans but I had no idea you were good friends of theirs. No doubt there is/ was mutual admiration and respect for one another. As we said, Bob will be very missed...he was very good to Peter's fans, down to earth and made one feel like he was the one honored to be speaking to you. I got the same feeling about you. Don't ever change that.
Anyway, thanks for chatting with me.

Hey PAul could you put in a word with the Yanks to get rid of the deal with YES. I cant get that station and i cant watch them when they arent on fox. That really stinks. Even when I do get to watch them it's not as reasuring that they are going to win without you out in right field. And without the famous name PAUL O'NEILL on the batting list, but i guess all yankee greats have to retire sometime. I do miss seeing Paul O'neill wearing the pinstripes though.

Hi, you are an inspiration to me. I am 16 years old, and i got to see you play your first game in pinstripes at the stadium. I have a picture with you when i was only 4 years old. You were always my favorite player, and I chose the number 21 for my high school baseball jersey in honor of you. You have always been an inspiration, and always my favorite player. Thank you very much, i will keep you in my prayers.

Dear Paul
I am currently researching my family history and genealogy and I was delighted to discover that amongst the royal heirs and many different careers in the family as far back as the 5th century, one of my relatives (although very distant) is a Professional and reknowned Yankees Player. Congratulations on an outstanding lifetime achievement. When I complete my book on the History of the O'Neill Family, know that I will be more than proud to have your name printed on the pages. Regards!

Hey, Paul 'Me and My Dad' was great reading, Thank You. But i have one question. In 1996 a Yankee player gave each of his teammates a Tee Shirt that said : PLAY TODAY / WIN TODAY, who did that?

I was fortunate to be a 'team leader' in a business setting for over 3.5 years in Cincinnati. Being a transplanted NJ native and living in the midwest was difficult, my NY Yankees were too far. Paulie was and is my all-time favorite Yankee. I had an opportunity to come home to NJ with a different company. The All-Star team I used to be associated with touched me forever. They gave me an autographed, Subway Series Paul Oneill Jersey. They framed it and each signed it on the mat. I was speechless that my team recognized how much I admire the Yanks and everything Paul stood for (and STANDS for): Grit, determination and a loosing is not an option approach to life and the game of baseball. That picture hangs with absolute pride in my new home in NJ. My former all-star work team wil always have a fond place in my heart, and will be forever sitting next to the greatest star of 'em all: PAULIE! Thanks for the memories.

I don't know if you remember me or my family or not but this is Michael M. from Cadiz, Ohio. You used to be very good friends with my dad's cousin Bobby Moore. Anyways I just wanted to thank you so much for all the great memories you have given me. I am the biggest Yankee fan ever because of you. (I used to be a Reds fan when you were there) I miss watching you play some much. You were awesome. We even came to New York just to watch you play a few years back. Well, take care and thanks for everything.

You were a real trooper....I hope you are truly enjoying your family now. We ms you.

Hi Paul,
I am looking forward to seeing you on the YES network again this year. I love the way you and Michael Kay banter back and forth with each other. I enjoy not only the baseball talk but also the ``Name that stadium tune'' that you guys play. You have my friends and I doing that now as well.
I received your book last year for my birthday. In fact, you were at a book signing on May 14 in Huntington, NY. Since that is my birthday, my husband and friends surprised me! So surprised, that I was tongue tied when I finally got the chance to say something to you!
I enjoyed your book very much! Baseball was also a way for my father and myself to bond. He worked very hard to support our family so the only time I really had to spend with him was when we were watching the Yankees together. He passed away 11 years ago but I know he is always watching or listening to the games with me.
Looking forward to a terrific season with A-rod aboard. Although I was fearful of him grabbing number 21 (2+1=3). Forever, that will be YOUR number.
Have a great year in the booth.

mr O'neill,
my name is daniel cleary and i am 20 and in the united states army. i just want to start this off by telling you that i want to thank you. about five years ago i met you when i traveled to florida and my dad took me to see the yankees play at tropicana field in st. petersburgh, fl. you signed your bat for my friend brian who had a brain tumor. i will never forget that. my father and I gave him the bat when he was at home during his last days, he was over joyed. i remember the day i met you and you did it with no hesitation. i remember your brother being there in the stands and talking with my father for a bit...we couldnt believe how much he looked like you. i just want to tell you that i have great respect for you, you are my favorite player and yankee. i just finished reading your book and i see things that you tell about your father in mine as well, even the stories you tell about your siblings and the homemade sports complex you had in your backyard. my father is in many ways similar to your father. my dad is a new york city firefighter, and he is my hero and has always encouraged me, much like your father. i decided to join the service after 9/11 instead of pursing my baseball career, but after i get out in a little under 2 years i will try out for minor league teams.. im glad i got to know you a little more by reading your book i enjoyed it a lot. im not sure how far this letter will go, or even if you will read it but before i deploy i just wanted to tell you thankyou very much. hopefully one day i will meet you again. thanks again, daniel

Paulie: I am currently reading your book. I never thought that I would get to look into your life so closely and to finally be able to figure you out...to a degree. For years I have defended you and your determination to the naysayers in my life. To them you were just a hot head...to me, you were a perfectionist. Someone who understands that it's not just a game...it's a way of life. I hope that I will be able to instill those values into my son. He says that when he grows up he's going play for the Yankees and he is going to wear the number 21 like my favorite player. 'You know, the one who got tired'. Oh the wisdom of a 5 year old. From a hometown Ohio girl who has gone against the grain and lived and breathed Yankees baseball, at least from the time you were traded until now, thanks for the memories and for a little glimpse into your soul.

Hey Paul; Just completed your book 'Me and My Dad'. I gave it to my son Sean, who's 9, this past Christmas. I've been coaching Little League with this upcoming season being my 6th. The parallels in your book between you and your dad and Sean and I are very similiar. You were our favorite player and I know he has taken a piece of your personality in his approach to the game, that mostly being the PASSION & Love of the game that you brought to the field every day! Even at 9 he has become a great 'student of the game' and is always looking to improve. Like yourself he is hard on himself when he doesn't have a good game, (although he does have game) as we say in NY, but he hasn't busted up any water-coolers yet (HA-HA).As a coach, I was wondering if you had any old hitting video that I could possibly purchase & use as a tool to teach the boys, while keeping it simple and fun at the same time. Thanks for all the hard work, effort, and most importantly the passion you brought to the ballpark! Thanks Ron Betterly-Retired Lieutenant/NYPD P.S. Thanks for the kind words in the book for the boys in blue & their families.

Paul, we really miss you out in rightfield. I remember the first time I

The website is great. Hope you are enjoying it...I am really enjoying
your commentary on the YES network, you seem to be a 'natural'. I'm getting
married on April 12th and it would be so great if you could perhaps e-mail a
congratulations note to me (and my intended Alan). I would keep it a secret
until probably rehearsal night (and then show him the e-mail with the rest
of the wedding crew -- rehearsal night is Thursday, April 10th. It would be
such a kicker if you could e-mail, suggesting you would would need a 4th for
doubles....we are avid tennis players, and I keep teasing him that some day
you will join us courtside! Anyway, if you have time and are up for it, it
would be great. If not, it's wonderful to have this opportunity to say
hello. I watch parts of your Yankee bio when I need to get pumped up for
tennis (its either you or Agassi). As a fellow leftie, I learn hip rotation
by watching you swing the bat. Anyway, Paul, sorry for the novel here.
Best to you and your family! And seriously, if you are ever in Jersey
looking for a doubles match, let me know!
|
Paul, I really miss watching you play for the Yankees. It is not the same

how much you added to that world-famous team. God Bless.

Hi Paul! The new design for your web site is sharp & really cool. By the
way, I really enjoyed your appearance on Yes Centerstage with Michael Kay
(It has been replayed regularly during this past off-season. I did not have
Yes last season because my cable company did not broadcast it, but now I
have the dish & I am looking forward to your analysis & commentary in the
2003 season. By the way, I really do hope that you plan on taking in a game
in the Rightfield Bleachers at the Stadium sometime in 2003. I am sure it
would be very fun for you & really add some extra excitement to the rowdy
but friendly bunch out there! All the best to you & your family, and I hope
to someday in the future see you managing the Yankees & sparking them on to
more championships!
|
Paul, I loved watching you play for the Yankees. You took your game so
seriously, sometimes it was really comical, but more players should put their
"all" into the game as you did. What a loss for your fans when you
retired. You went out with clas and dignity. I will NEVER forget the last
game of the world series the day your Dad had died. You played hard, despite
you had just lost your Dad. I watched you cry like a real man ,after the
game ended. You were my hero that day. God bless you and your family.

I can't believe that you might write back. I have been raised a Yankee fan. My room is NNY and the New York Giants. I was so sad when you decided to retire. But now my favorite player is Derek Jeter. Remember when you went to a game in Philly and a little kid wanted you to wave to him and he was yelling "Mr. O'Neill" instead of Paulie or Paul and all of the the other outfeilders were telling you to wave but you didn't. Then about two years later you were coming out of the 'away team' locker room at the Philly stadium and you walked out and waved. Well that little kid that you waved to was the same kid that was saying "Mr. O'Neill" How ironic.
|
When I was about 7 maybe 8 years old, I was a die hard fan of yours, and I still am. I have an autographed picture of you in my room. But when you would come up to bat, I would run up with your jersey on and kiss the T.V.
My brother used to make fun of me for that. You were my fvorite player. I
really miss seeing you play baseball and I still haven't found my new
favorite baseball player yet. I MISS YOU!!!

Just wanted to drop you a line, Mr. Paul O'Neil, a/k/a the Warrior. your boss' nickname for you. Thank you for making each swing and each play in the field count along
with your tireless efforts regardless of playing hurt or not. If most of the
major leaguers played with the same intensity as you did along with what's his name #23? Oh yes, Donnie Baseball. Then the game I love so much would be like watching Mickey and Rajah all over again at the big ball orchard in the Bronx as Art Rust Jr. so eloquently put it. You, Paul, are truly the consummate professional. Wishing you good health
and continued success to you and your family.

I see you enjoyed the Bon Jovi Concert @ the Continental Arena on Feb 10th 2003! I was sitting 7 Rows behind you in Section 110. I am Richie Samboras cousin, Rob...I saw my Uncle Adam chatting with ya before the show and you
were quite kewl signing all those autographs for the fans! You were and
still are My top two Yanks of all-time, the other #23 Donnie Baseball! The
way you played the with such passion makes me proud you were a Yankee for
all those year! Well, #21, gotta get back to work, look forward to watching
ya again this year on the YES Network! P.S. When I went backstage at the Jovi Concert, my Uncle Adam said you were going to be Backstage on the Feb 11th show, would of been great to rap
with ya!

I have mixed emotions every year since you have retired. I get excited at
the prospect of a new season with the Yankees, yet there is a void not seeing
you out in right field. However, I am so grateful that you are still a part
of the organization through broadcasting. You are as gifted with the
analysis of what is going on "pre & post" game as you were on the field.
So, thank you Paul for still being a part of "our lives." You are still my
favorite Yankee and always will be. 21 should be retired and never worn again by any Yankee! We wish you well in your continued venue with the YES Network and hope to hear you
broadcasting some games as well. I caught the exhibition game on YES and
heard you. I was delighted!! Thank you for being with us in any given
capacity. God Bless you and yours always

broadcasting role again you seem to be a natural as a broadcaster so at ease
and comfortable in front of the camera.

I miss you. It is no fun watching the Yankees without you. I don't get the YES Network, so I can't even see you there.

Hey Paul. My name is Keira. I'm 15 years old and in grade 10. I have been a fan of yours for almost 5 years. I made a jersy to show that I really loved your playing. I miss you alot and I would like you to contact me cause
I don't have to many friends. I have been a Jays fan sense I was a year old
and now I cheer for the yanks and jays. I wish you could still play because
you were like a hero to me. I know girls can't play in the pro league at
least I dream. I would like to meet you and tell you how much I feel and
think of you. I will never forget looking for you in the lineup. I hope you
can get back to me soon. Your loving Fan, Keira

Having been a Yankee fan all my life and growing up in the Mantle/Maris
era made watching Paul O'Neill even more special. He lived and played the
true Yankee spirit to the fullest. With the life long dream of going to
Yankee stadium, I got a ticket for the May 24,2001 game against the Red Sox
and flew up for just for the game and flew back that night. My seat was down
the first baseline in box 99, right across from Paul. It was a pitching duel
between Mussina and Martinez with a total of 24 k's between them and O'Neill
drove in the winning run. I knew all along that this was the last year to
see that great team play before retirement and trades would split them up
and I was right. I miss that trademark swing and maybe the best throwing arm
ever in right field. I thank you Paul for all the great years you gave us in
pinstripes. You are truly missed.

I'm not really sure if you ever read these messages, but I wanted to thank
you for 3 things. I want to thank you for being a gamer and playing hard
everyday, throwing your batting gloves to me at a Yankee/Angel game and
taking the time to sign a baseball while laying out at the pool at a hotel
in Anaheim. Thanks for everything and good luck in all you do in the
future. Thanks for the time......

I'm sitting here watching a re-run of the center stage show you did with Michael Kay. When my son is old enough to play baseball im going to show him tapes of your play. No one played the game with more pride and intensity
then you did and you were a joy to watch. You clearly cared deeply about
your play and the effort you gave to each play in the field and to each
pitch at the plate should make you proud. It made me proud to be a yankee
fan!
